Reinforced Concrete Design of Tall Buildings

This book is a modest attempt to explore the world of concrete as it applies to the construction of buildings while simultaneously striving to seek answers to the challenges I set for myself. It is directed toward consulting engineers, and, within the academy, the book may be helpful to educators and students alike, particularly as a teaching tool in courses for students who have completed an introductory course in structural engineering and seek a deeper understanding of structural design principles and practices. It is my hope that this book serves as a comprehensive reference for the structural design of reinforced concrete buildings, particularly those that are tall.

The Roman House in Britain

This authoritative and original work sets the results of recent archaeological research in the context of classical scholarship, as it explores three main aspects of Romano-British buildings: general characteristics of form and structure, the ways in which they were built and decorated and the range of activities for which they were designed. This evidence is then used to discuss the social practices and domestic arrangements that characterised Romano-British elite society. Fully illustrated, this volume is the essential guide to how houses were built, used and understood in Roman Britain.

Manual for Streets

There is a need to bring about a transformation in the quality of streets. This requires a fundamental culture change in the way streets are designed and adopted, including a more collaborative approach between the design professions and other stakeholders. People need to think creatively about their various roles in the process of delivering streets, breaking away from standardised, prescriptive, risk-averse methods to create high-quality places.
